While you are on vacation . . . . get your dog some education.
These courses are available while your dog stays at Sandy Hill Kennels.
THE BASICS
Refresh, strengthen, or teach the basic commands of RESPOND TO YOUR NAME, SIT, DOWN, and STAY. These fundamental control positions are the foundation of most future training. If your dog already knows the command, then the goal is to have your dog respond to the verbal command more consistently. For dogs with little or no experience in basic obedience, then the goal is to have the dog performing with the commands with verbal and hand signs. Please inform the staff of the amount of knowledge your dog has with basic commands. (Minimum 7 Day total stay required)
IMPROVED RECALL
Using positive motivation and reinforcement to improve and accelerate your dog’s return to you when the dog is called. Most dogs “kind of“ come when called. This course will strengthen this most important of all dog behaviors. Please inform the staff of the distractions or specific difficulties you have in calling your dog back to you when you sign them up for this class. (Minimum 7 Day total stay required)
LOOSE LEASH WALKING
Minimum 7 day total stay $129 Instructor: Carl Osterholm or Jeff Phipps
Most dogs pull on the leash. It’s only natural. The goal is to teach your dog to respond to leash tension by slowing down, not pulling harder. If your dog pulls all the time, the goal will be have your dog not pull on an isolated walk with mild distractions. If your dog walks fine but only pulls in the presence of other dogs, the goal would be to have an improved loose leash walk around other dogs. If your dog’s emotional response is too great toward other dogs, individual training maybe required and I will contact you. Please let the staff know of the conditions of your dog’s pulling on leash. This course also includes a package of 5 walks by the Kennel’s staff as instructed by Carl to enhance the teaching. Additional walks may still be purchased. (Minimum 7 Day total stay required)
IMPROVED SOCIALIZATION SKILLS
Has your dog not been around other dogs because of your busy schedule? Does your dog not respond well to “some dogs?” This course is designed to have your dog around confident, accepting and non-reactive dogs in the presence of a trainer, so that your dog will have a chance to learn, exhibit, and modify its body language toward other dogs. A trainer designed play group for while the dog is in kennel and a written evaluation of your dog’s interaction with other dogs are included with this course. (Minimum 7 Day total stay required)
MUZZLE INTRODUCTION
For all dogs that are required to wear a muzzle to the Vet or Groomer. This course is designed to condition the dog to willingly accept the muzzle, instead of resisting and making the situation worse. JAFCO type muzzles will be used, so that any negative association with store bought muzzles is avoided. Please furnish your muzzle if possible, if not a description is sufficient. (Minimum 7 Day total stay required)
COUNTER SURFING CORRECTIVE
Designed for the good dog that will help himself to what ever is left on the counter. The goal is to change the dogs response to tasty items left on the counter. Please inform the staff of as many specifics as possible: type of counter, height, type of food or items dog takes, and any commands you have attempted and their effectiveness.
